Health & Water Safety Courses

Our courses are taught by American Red Cross certified instructors and utilize the American Red Cross program for the respective courses.  All courses meet the needs of workplace and professional responders, professional rescuers, school staff, and healthcare providers, as well as the general public.  All courses include lectures, videos, demonstrations, practice and testing skill scenarios, and a written exam. Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive certification(s) that are valid for two years.

Registration

Register for all classes in the Member Services Suite, Carmichael Gym, Room 1000. Cash, check, Visa and Mastercard are accepted.

Registration for classes scheduled for the Spring 2014 will open Thursday, January 2, 2014.

CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and Health Care Provider

Course length: approximately 5 hours

To train professional-level rescuers to respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies in adults, children and infants until more advanced medical personnel take over. You must attend ALL components for the class you are enrolled. If you leave early you will NOT pass the class or receive your certifications.  Students who successfully complete this course will receive a certificate valid for two years.

Course length: approximately 3.5 hours

Learn how to respond to emergencies through our CPR/AED course for Workplaces, Schools, and Individuals.  Participants will study how to respond to cardiac and breathing emergencies through emphasis on hands-on learning. You must attend ALL components for the class you are enrolled. If you leave early you will NOT pass the class or receive your certifications.  Students who successfully complete this course will receive a certificate valid for two years.

First Aid for Workplaces, Schools and Individuals

Course length: approximately 3 hours

The First Aid for Workplaces, Schools, and Individuals course teaches participants how to respond to common first aid emergencies such as burns, cuts, head injuries, spinal injuries, and more.  You must attend ALL components for the class you are enrolled. If you leave early you will NOT pass the class or receive your certifications.  Students who successfully complete this course will receive a certificate valid for two years.

CPR/AED & First Aid Packages

Packages below can be created by combining CPR/AED course (CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and Health Care Provider OR CPR/AED for Workplaces, Schools and Individuals) and a First Aid for Workplaces, Schools and Individuals. 

Lifeguarding

Must be at least 15 years old and pass the prerequisite swimming requirements. 
Course length: approximately 26 hours 

The Lifeguarding course teaches through videos, group discussion, and hands-on practice.  Candidates will learn rescue, surveillance, teamwork skills, and become CPR/AED certified.  You must be 15 years old to take the Lifeguarding course and pass a series of swimming requirements.  You must attend ALL components for the class you are enrolled. If you leave early you will NOT pass the class or receive your certifications.  Students who successfully complete this course will receive a certificate valid for two years.

Lifeguarding Instructor

Course length: approximately 19 hours

The Lifeguard Instructor course trains candidates to teach basic levels of lifeguarding, lifeguard management, CPR/AED for the professional rescuer, administering emergency oxygen, blood borne pathogens training, disease transmission, and basic water rescue. Candidates must be 17 years of age, successfully completed Red Cross Lifeguard/First Aid training, obtain a Fundamentals of Instructor Training Certificate, or possess a current national Health and Safety Services Instructor Authorization Certificate, and successfully complete the online pre-course. You must attend ALL components for the class you are enrolled. If you leave early you will NOT pass the class or receive your certifications.  Students who successfully complete this course will receive a certificate valid for two years. 

Recertification Courses and Other Health & Safety Courses

We provide a wide array of other courses including Bloodborne Pathogens Training, Administering Emergency Oxygen, and Recertification Courses for all offered courses.  Courses can be requested throughout the year and must have a minimum of three participants to be offered.
