Carmichael Complex Membership Update

Dear Carmichael Complex Member:

Thank you for choosing NC State University Recreation as your personal source for recreation and fitness. As you may have noticed during the past year, we have made numerous changes to transform the quality of our facilities, programs, and services. These changes include additional facility hours during weekends and holidays, no additional charges for group fitness specialty classes, doubling the amount of group fitness classes to 100 per week, and the recent Carmichael Gymnasium Renovation Project. This project provided an additional 6,000 sq. ft. of dedicated recreation fitness center space and exercise equipment.

Although student recreation fees have increased over the past several years, Carmichael Complex membership rates remained unchanged since 2007. As a result, a discrepancy exists in the current membership structure with some members paying less than students.

Effective February 1, 2013 a new Carmichael Complex fees and membership structure will be implemented. The new fees and structure will create a simplified membership program, ensure member rates are comparable to student recreation fees, reflect new facility and program enhancements and provide students and members with equal access to locker services. New rates were determined based on benchmark data from comparable collegiate recreation facilities and local market analysis while being mindful about keeping rates affordable for members of the NC State community.

We will be consolidating our Full Service and Access Only memberships options into one. Your membership will now include access to Carmichael Complex facilities, equipment checkout services including towels and clothing, and free access to Day Use Lockers. Assigned locker service will become a separate, value added option that you may elect to purchase. This service will also be available to students.

We understand you have many options when choosing a facility to meet your recreation and fitness needs. We believe the new rates remain affordable and attractive to members of the university community. As a valued member, we look forward to your continued support as our facilities, programs, and services continue to grow and evolve. If you have any questions about the new membership fees or other recreation initiatives, please feel free to contact me at (919) 515-7529 or wlschoen@ncsu.edu.

Best regards,
