Diversity and Inclusion adVenture Experience (D.I.V.E.)
What is DIVE?
D.I.V.E. takes student leaders from different multicultural student groups on campus into the outdoors for an 8 day camping and rock climbing trip during Spring Break. Throughout the trip the students will participate in specific Diversity and Inclusion curriculum while rock climbing and camping together. The Wilderness Diversity and Inclusion curriculum is a progression that includes Diversity Terminology, Awareness of Self and Others, Stereotyping, Communication, Society and Oppression, Conflict Management and finally Transference. Students gain a deeper understanding of others who are different from them, how prejudices and stereotypes have detrimental effects on the overall NSCU community, and finally develop strategies to enhance the celebration of differences rather than being participants of or bystanders in oppression.
