Registration 

All trips are sold on a first-come/first-serve basis, and full payment or a deposit is due at the time of registration. Registration must be made in person at the Equipment Rental Center during regular operating hours. 

In order to participate in the Trips Program participants must meet all of the following criteria:

  • Currently enrolled student at NCSU
  • Have a valid Carmichael Gym Membership

Upon Registration each participant will complete the Expedition Behavior Agreement Form. Participants must read and agree to all trip policies before registering for a trip.

Participants will also receive a Participant Medical Form. This form must be completed in full and turned into the trip leaders at the Mandatory Pre Trip Meeting.

Pre-Trip Meeting

Pre-trip meetings are mandatory for all participants. Pre-trip meetings are required to ensure that all participants are adequately prepared for the trip. Personal equipment lists and additional important information are presented at pre-trip meetings. Participant Fitness Assessments and Water Comfort Tests are required for specific trips during the pre trip meeting as well. 

All participants must bring their completed Participant Medical Form to the meeting. Participants who do not attend the pre-trip meeting will not be able to attend the trip, and will not receive a refund.

Policies

  • Participants must attend the Pre-Trip Meeting for their specific trip.  If participants do not attend the meeting they will be dropped from the trip and no refunds will be given.
  • Participants must pass the Fitness Assessment and/or Water Comfort Test if required for trip.
  • Participants must travel in Outdoor Adventures’ vehicles. Driving separately, meeting the group or being picked up is not allowed
  • Outdoor Adventures trips are university related functions and should be treated as such. Alcohol, tobacco, and drug use are prohibited for the duration of the trip. Participants who violate these rules are subject to removal from the trip and transportation back to NCSU will be at the participant’s expense.

Refund Policy

Refunds are not given for any reason unless trip is canceled by Outdoor Adventures.

Spring Holiday Intro to Backpacking

What: Extended Backpacking Trip
When:  Thursday April 17th - Sunday April 20th
Where: Grayson Highlands State Park & Mount Rogers National Recreation Area, VA

Registration Close: April 9th
Pre-Trip Meeting: Wednesday, April 9th 6:30-7:30 in the Mountains Classroom

Price: $125
Includes: Transportation, equipment, instruction, meals, (road meals are not included)

Tentative Itinerary:

  • Meet at Carmichael Recreation Complex at 9:00am on Thursday and head out to Mt. Rogers, VA stopping for lunch along the way
  • Arrive at Grayson Highlands State Park and head out on the Appalachian Trail!
  • Wake up Friday and continue backpacking along into Rogers National Recreation Area and Lewis Fork Wilderness
  • Wake up Saturday and continue backpacking enjoying the beautiful views along the way
  • Sunday the group will wake up and finish the trek back to the vehicles and head back to NCSU around 1:00pm
  • Arrive back at NCSU around 6:00pm.  Leave ½ hour for gear cleaning and organization

Join Outdoor Adventures as we head off to one of the most beautiful areas of southern Virginia. Mount Rogers is the highest point in Virginia and offers exquisite beauty with 360-degree panoramic views, diverse wildlife, and a wonderful opportunity to see Mother Nature.  No experience is necessary. All instruction and equipment will be provided.

Spring Holiday Sea Kayaking

What: Extended Kayaking Trip
When:  Thursday April 17th through Sunday April 20th
Where: Outer Banks, NC

Registration Close: April 9th  
Pre-Trip Meeting: Wednesday, April 9th 6:30-8:00 in the Lakes Classroom

Price: $150
Includes: Transportation, equipment, instruction, meals, (road meals are not included)

Tentative Itinerary:

  • Depart Carmichael Recreation Center by 9:00am On Thursday and Drive to Hammocks Beach in the Outer banks
  • Spend the few days at Hammocks practicing paddling skills and exploring the beautiful area
  •  Drive back to Raleigh on Sunday and we will be back at Carmichael Recreation center around 5:00pm.

The Outer Banks have been hailed as one of the most beautiful places to paddle in the country. This trip is intended for beginner paddlers and more experienced paddlers alike! We will spend the first few days learning how to efficiently paddle our boats and the necessary skills for expedition travel in a sea kayak at Hammock Beach State Park. Having time for both relaxing and adventuring, this trip is the perfect way to spend your Spring Holiday!
