Trips Clothing Rental: Take advantage of OA's Trip Clothing Rentals for high-end clothing for your OA Adventure!

Registration 

All trips are sold on a first-come/first-serve basis, and full payment or a deposit is due at the time of registration. Registration must be made in person at the Equipment Rental Center during regular operating hours. 

In order to participate in the Trips Program participants must meet all of the following criteria:

  • Currently enrolled student at NCSU
  • Have a valid Carmichael Gym Membership

Upon Registration each participant will complete the Expedition Behavior Agreement Form. Participants must read and agree to all trip policies before registering for a trip.

Participants will also receive a Participant Medical Form. This form must be completed in full and turned into the trip leaders at the Mandatory Pre Trip Meeting.

Pre-Trip Meeting

Pre-trip meetings are mandatory for all participants. Pre-trip meetings are required to ensure that all participants are adequately prepared for the trip. Personal equipment lists and additional important information are presented at pre-trip meetings. Participant Fitness Assessments and Water Comfort Tests are required for specific trips during the pre trip meeting as well. 

All participants must bring their completed Participant Medical Form to the meeting. Participants who do not attend the pre-trip meeting will not be able to attend the trip, and will not receive a refund.

Policies

  • Participants must attend the Pre-Trip Meeting for their specific trip.  If participants do not attend the meeting they will be dropped from the trip and no refunds will be given.
  • Participants must pass the Fitness Assessment and/or Water Comfort Test if required for trip.
  • Participants must travel in Outdoor Adventures’ vehicles. Driving separately, meeting the group or being picked up is not allowed
  • Outdoor Adventures trips are university related functions and should be treated as such. Alcohol, tobacco, and drug use are prohibited for the duration of the trip. Participants who violate these rules are subject to removal from the trip and transportation back to NCSU will be at the participant’s expense.

Refund Policy

Refunds are not given for any reason unless trip is canceled by Outdoor Adventures.

Sugar Mountain Day Ski Trip

Appalachian Mountain Day Ski Trip

Day Winter Hike

  • Hike and explore in a beautiful  area in a snowy back drop
  • Cook a warm lunch and Hike some more
  • Arrive back on campus around 8:00pm
  • Allow about ½ hour to unload vans and clean equipment

This year they are predicting an awesome winter and at Outdoor Adventures we want to help you get out and enjoy the wintery mix. We will choose the location of this trip based on the weather, and our experience leaders will help you stay warm and dry as you travel through the winter  Mountains.  No experience is necessary!


Spring Break Canoe Suwanee

What: Canoeing and camping in Southern Georgia and Northern Florida

Tentative Itinerary:

  • Meet at Carmichael Recreation Complex at 6:00am and begin drive to Fargo, GA and set up camp
  • Wake up Sunday morning and enjoy a day paddle in the Okefenokee Swamp. Camp near the swamp
  • Wake up Monday morning and begin paddle in the Okefenokee to the Suwannee River sill and camp along the river
  • Tuesday-Thursday continue paddling down the Suwannee River, paddling between 15-20 miles per day and camping on sandbars
  • Wake up Friday and paddle 4-6 miles to the take out and enjoy the small, historic town of White Springs, FL.  Camp in a campground outside of town.
  • Saturday begin drive to NC State.  Arrive back on campus around 6:00pm.  Allow 1 hour for gear clean up and organization.

Want a truly memorable Spring Break experience? This year we will be heading to the Okefenokee Swamp in southern Georgia. Okefenokee means “land of trembling earth,” in the language of the now extinct Hitchiti tribe. Under canopies of ancient cypress trees adorned with Spanish moss, we will canoe through the black waters of the massive Okefenokee Swamp which conceals alligators, otters, and beavers along with a vast array of other unique wildlife. From the Okefenokee, we will emerge into the famous Suwannee River which flows out of the swamp and 240 miles south into the Gulf of Mexico. We will continue 80 miles south along the fast-flowing Suwannee, camping on the rivers famous white sand beaches each night. Our journey will take us across the state line and into Florida where we will observe 19th century cotton plantations as well as breathtaking sunsets. We will conclude our river trip with a one-night stopover in White Springs, Florida, which is known for its beautiful antebellum mansions and quaint oak-lined streets. Join us on this epic trip, you won’t regret it!  No experience is necessary. All instruction and equipment will be provided. 


Spring Break Backpacking

Tentative Itinerary:

  • Meet at OA at Noon at Friday and Depart for Foothills,South Carolina.
  • Saturday through Friday- Hike through the beautiful foothills of the Appalachian Mountains-the oldest in the world.
  • Saturday, March 9th - depart for NCSU and arrive om campus around 7pm. 
The Appalachian Mountains are the oldest in the world, Come see where this magnificent range beings in the wonderful Foothills of South Carolina. This trip will attempt to hike all of the 77 miles of Foot Hills Trail. Along the way we will see beautiful water falls, rock cliffs and lakes. No previous backpacking experience is necessary and our trip leaders will provide you with all the necessary skills to camp, hike and enjoy yourself in the wilderness.  

 


Crabtree Afternoon Mountain Bike

  • Leave at 2pm for Crabtree County Park
  • Gear up and safety talk in the parking lot
  • Ride from 2:30-5pm
  • Return to NC State at 5:30pm
  • Allow 15 minutes for gear clean up

Lake Crabtree County Park offers over 7 miles of single track mountain bike trails which surround the scenic Lake Crabtree.  Our afternoon ride will feature beginner to moderate technical trails which will entertain all levels of riders.  For beginners or first time riders we recommend participating in one of our Day Mountain Biking Rides at Umstead State Park first. 


Raven Rock State Park Day Hike

  • Arrive at Raven Rock State Park around 8:30am
  • Hike and explore Hanging Rock, eating lunch around 1pm
  • We’ll leave for Raleigh around 5:00pm
  • Arrive back on campus around 6:30pm
  • Allow about ½ hour to unload vans and clean equipment

Raven Rock State Park is located just over an hour outside of Raleigh along the Cape Fear River.  This beautiful park is full of hiking trails and scenic views. Travel through hardwood forest on your way to Raven Rock, the parks' centerpiece.  Join us and discover this beautiful terrain.  No experience is necessary. All instruction and equipment will be provided. 

 

Spring Holiday Intro To Backpacking

Tentative Itinerary:

  • Meet at Carmichael Recreation Complex at 9:00am on Thursday and head out to Mt. Rogers, VA stopping for lunch along the way (on your own).
  • Arrive at Grayson Highlands State Park and head out on the Appalachian Trail!
  • Wake up Friday and continue backpacking along into Rogers National Recreation Area and Lewis Fork Wilderness
  • Wake up Saturday and continue backpacking enjoying the beautiful views along the way
  • Sunday the group will wake up and finish the trek back to the vehicles and head back to NCSU around 1:00pm
  • Arrive back at NCSU around 6:00pm.  Leave ½ hour for gear cleaning and organization

Join Outdoor Adventures as we head off to one of the most beautiful areas of southern Virginia. Mount Rogers is the highest point in Virginia and offers exquisite beauty with 360-degree panoramic views, diverse wildlife, and a wonderful opportunity to see Mother Nature.  No experience is necessary. All instruction and equipment will be provided. 

In order to participate in certain trips with Outdoor Adventures, a Fitness Assessment is required at the pre-trip meeting.  This assessment is intended to enhance the safety and enjoyment of all participants involved.  To successfully complete this assessment a 1.5 mile distance must be covered in no more than 15 minutes by walking/running.

 

Pilot Mountain Day Rock Climb

  • Meet at Carmichael Recreation Center at 6:00am.  Leave for Pilot Mountain State Park.
  • Arrive at Pilot Mountain State Park around 9:30am. 
  • Climb from 10am-4pm.
  • Begin drive back to NCSU around 4:30pm.
  • Arrive on campus about 7pm.  Allow about 30 minutes to clean and organize gear.

Pilot Mountain is one of North Carolina’s most distinctive mountains. It is most widely known for its big pinnacle aka “The Knob” which rises up 2,421 feet. Pilot Mountain is remnant of the Sauratown mountain range, and has a wide range of climbing routes to choose from. Climbing on our trip will range from beginner to intermediate climbs. We will set up top-ropes for a full day of rock climbing. No experience is necessary. All instruction and equipment will be provided. 

  

Cape Fear River Paddle

Tentative Itinerary:

  • Meet at Carmichael Recreation Complex at 8:00am on Saturday and begin drive to put in
  • Canoe all day, stopping for lunch and snacks along the way.  The group will camp in Raven Rock State Park
  • Wake up Sunday morning around 8:00am, pack up and load all equipment into the canoes and continue paddling down the Cape Fear River to the take out spot
  • Arrive back at NCSU around 5:00pm.  Allow half an hour for cleanup and organization

Join Outdoor Adventures as we load up our canoes and spend the weekend paddling and camping along the beautiful Cape Fear River!  This journey will take us through Raven Rock State Park for a fun night of camping!  Experience the joys and skills of canoeing down this fun and exciting river!  No experience is necessary. All instruction and equipment will be provided. 

In order to participate on this adventure a water comfort assessment is required at the pre-trip meeting.  To successfully complete this assessment, 4 lengths of the pool must be swum continuously using the stroke(s) of your choice.  In addition, you will need to tread water for 2 minutes.  This assessment is intended to enhance the safety and enjoyment for all participants involved.
